Chief of Security, Alan Thompson

 

Privacy and security are paramount to most residents of the Community of Shoal Creek.  Shoal Creek Properties employs an armed Security staff, and officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Chief Thompson, a Vietnam veteran, has been serving Shoal Creek for the past 25 years, ensuring guests and club members visit – and residents return home to – a peaceful, safe haven.

Where were you born? Warsaw, NY

Tell us about your family. Married to my wonderful wife of 20 years; 1 son, 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson

How long have you worked at Shoal Creek? 25 years this year

What first drew you to your position here? My youngest daughter

What are three words that best describe you? Quiet, Survivor, Passionate

What are three words that describe Shoal Creek? Beauty, Different, Challenge

What do you like most about your job or the company? The people and the challenge

How has Shoal Creek changed since you have been here? Many more homes, and the golf course was recently renovated.

Do you have a favorite work-related memory or proudest moment on the job here? Working with Hall Thompson, founder of Shoal Creek

What advice would you give other Security Officers or job applicants who want to work here? To do your best and treat others as you would like to be treated

If you wrote a book about your time here, what would the title be? The Gates

What do you find most challenging about your job as Security Chief? Making sure everyone is happy

If you could do any other job for a day, what would you do? Game Warden

What is the greatest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your life thus far? Cancer, Stage 4

What do you like to do on your time off? Four-wheel drive trails

What is a typical day like for you? Work, chores at home, then sometimes a walk in the woods behind my home

If you could only have one drink for the rest of your life (besides water, of course), what would it be? Red Wine

Do you have a personal mantra or quote? Believe in God, do your best, and treat others as you want to be treated.

What is something we’d be surprised to learn about you? Thompson is my adopted name

What is your biggest pet peeve? Being told I cannot do something.
